This is the only exam officially recognised by the Spanish Ministry of Education and Science. It is also highly regarded in the business world.
This is a 20-lesson-per-week programme with a maximum of 15 students (seven on average) per class. Students can choose to study for anything from 1 to 12 weeks.
The first and second classes of each day focus on grammar. The next two classes are conversational based and the last class explores past papers for exam practice
As the exam is part oral and part written the course involves audiovisual comprehension exercises, specialised texts, and compositions which gradually increase in difficulty depending on the level of the exam that the student is preparing for.
The Certificado exam is for intermediate-level students, the Intermedio is for those who fall in the advanced level and the Superior is only for those with a level of fluency in Spanish.
If the student is a beginner when they arrive they will need three months to prepare for the Certificado exam. If the student is at an intermediate level they should be able to prepare for the Intermediate exam in the same time frame. The same applies for students at an advanced level taking the Superior exam. At Mester we only prepare students for the Intermedio and Superior Diploma exams.
Exam dates are set by the Spanish Government and typically fall in the second or third week of May, August and November. Download the official DELE leaflet!
